Is this what a cure looks like? I'm seeing a TCM doctor in hopes of healing what my allopathic doctors cannot. I've had most of the tests and all of the prodding and the medications. My gastrointestinal docs have nothing to offer by way of diagnosis or salve. I need to try something to relieve the pain, so I'm cooking up pot after pot of Chinese herbs.
Every four or five days, I get a new batch of herbs. The doc lays them out on big pieces of paper before putting them in brown lunch bags. I recognize ginseng, but nothing else. I ask him about this bark or berry or that black fungus. It's all very mysterious.
After a month of taking these herbs, I feel much worse than before I started. I'm told to persevere. As I pour water over these collections, I wonder if this is the elixir I need.

I can only imagine what drinking these rather curio looking herbs must feel like . . . in addition, not knowing what the herbs are and how exactly they will be received by the body.
When I was living in pain I found I was very much forced to let go of any notions of controlling my body - which is bad enough - then came the loss of control over how my meds would impact me. It all gave new meaning to 'letting go and letting god.'

Thanks, Amber Dawn. I didn't know you had lived with pain. I hope that since you used the past tense that you're free of that now. Loss of control is a big issue for folks with chronic illness. I don't have a "let god" kind of attitude, but I do have to give in and just ride this crazy wave sometimes.
Still taking the herbs? I always thought they would make a great graphic, but what a brown tasty muddy mess they turn into!
